The Nigerian police have called on British national Andrew Wynne, who was declared wanted, to surrender himself. On Monday, September 2, Wynne and a Nigerian man, Lucky Obiyan, were declared wanted by the Nigerian police for allegedly conspiring to overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
They face charges including terrorism financing, treasonable felony, cybercrime, subversion, and criminal conspiracy, with a bounty placed on their capture.
Wynne, speaking from hiding, denied the accusations and claimed he was unaware of being labeled a fugitive, stating that no official summons had been issued to him prior to being declared wanted.
However, the Nigerian police dismissed his claims on Tuesday, September 3. Police Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, speaking from Force headquarters in Abuja, stated that Wynne had been contacted multiple times but failed to respond, even after his workshop was raided.
Adejobi challenged Wynne to come out of hiding and face the law, noting that Wynne’s accomplices had already been arraigned in court. He also rejected Wynne’s proposal for a Zoom interrogation, citing the seriousness of the charges against him.
