Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, warned about foreign interference in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, especially in the critical 48 hours before the vote on November 5. He cited the example of a Russian group releasing a deep fake audio before Slovakia’s election, which was amplified by top Russian officials.
Smith emphasized that Russia, Iran, and China are working to undermine democracy and that these nations are actively involved in disinformation campaigns, including fake news and manipulated videos, to influence the U.S. election. He highlighted the serious threat posed by these efforts, especially in a race potentially between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
The administration in Washington has accused Russia of interfering in the U.S. presidential election campaign.
Similar accusations had been made in previous elections.
Smith testified alongside Meta’s Nick Clegg and Kent Walker, president and chief legal officer for Google’s Alphabet.
