The Nigerian government has suspended several senior correctional officers following allegations of misconduct involving cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, who was reportedly granted unauthorized access to an apartment outside the prison.
The suspensions were announced by Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), after Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo launched an investigation into the claims.
Among those suspended are Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, both Deputy Controllers of Corrections overseeing the Kirikiri Custodial Centres, and ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, accused of escorting a convicted inmate outside a facility. Another officer, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, was suspended over bribery allegations. The results of the investigation will be made public once concluded.
