Gunmen have tragically killed Port Harcourt-based architect and Anambra native, Engr. Asomba Andrew Egbuonu, just four days before his mother’s burial. Egbuonu, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (FNIA), died on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from complications caused by gunshot wounds sustained in an attack near his hometown of Nnewi, Anambra State.
According to a statement by the General Secretary of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Chike Chamberlain Ibeanu, Egbuonu was finalizing funeral arrangements for his mother, scheduled for Thursday, November 21, when the attack occurred.
Egbuonu, who was a former Chair of the NIA Rivers State Chapter and Chair of the Architectural Exhibitions and Competitions Committee, was remembered for his dedication to the profession. His passing has left his family and colleagues in mourning. The NIA has urged prayers for his soul and strength for his grieving family.
