Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured that Senators will prioritize the interests of Nigerians as they discuss and pass the Tax Reform Bill. He emphasized that opposition to the bill will not be silenced and encouraged governors, traditional leaders, and other concerned Nigerians to participate in the public hearing to voice their concerns.
Akpabio stated that the Senate is immune to intimidation and will continue to fulfill its constitutional duties. During plenary, he highlighted the benefits of the bills.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele refuted claims that the Senate had suspended legislative actions on the bills or withdrawn them, affirming that “the bill is alive at the Senate.”
Additionally, the expected meeting between the Senate ad hoc committee, chaired by Minority Leader Abba Moro, and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), did not take place. Instead, the ad hoc committee convened a 40-minute session in Moro’s office.
