The Minority caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has labeled President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration as the worst in the country’s Fourth Republic, citing alarming economic hardship, overwhelming national debt, and high unemployment.
Reacting to the President’s State of the Nation address on Friday, January 3, Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Kofi Armah-Buah criticized the government’s performance, stating:
> “The people of Ghana have already delivered their verdict on the state of the nation—economic hardship, huge debt overhang, youth unemployment, hopelessness, and more. This is undoubtedly the worst government under the Fourth Republic.”
He noted that the administration’s poor track record was evident in the December 7 elections, where the government faced a significant rejection from the people.
Armah-Buah further criticized President Akufo-Addo for relying on International Monetary Fund (IMF) support at both the beginning and end of his tenure, calling it a unique failure of leadership.
Highlighting the unfinished National Cathedral project, he added:
“Mr. President, you failed to deliver on your promise to God to build a cathedral. I’ll leave that between you and your God.”
