Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has responded to the news of a white South African woman winning the Miss South Africa pageant, which followed a controversy that led to Chidinma Vanessa Adetshina’s withdrawal.
Mia Le Roux, a model from Free State, was crowned Miss South Africa at a ceremony held at the Sun Bet Arena in Menlyn, Pretoria. Le Roux is notable for being the first Miss SA winner who is deaf and has a cochlear implant.
She will be the first contestant with such a disability to compete in the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico. For her reign, she receives the Mowana crown, a fully furnished apartment, a Mercedes Benz, R1 million, and additional prizes. In response to the situation, Burna Boy commented, “So after all that,” and included laughter emojis.
His reaction is coming after Chidnma Adetshina, a 23-year-old law student who said her father is Nigerian while her mum is a South African of Mozambican descent, withdrew from the pageant over controversies about her nationality. Some South Africans had questioned whether Chidinma was really a citizen of the country and took to social media to ask for her to be removed from the pageant.
