SERAP urges Tinubu to investigate the $1.5bn World Bank loan to states and the FCT.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to investigate the use of a $1.5 billion World Bank loan given to Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for social protection and COVID-19 recovery.

SERAP also urged Tinubu to probe the alleged mismanagement of $3.121 billion in Chinese loans obtained by the federal government. The organization wants the Attorney-General and anti-corruption agencies to investigate these loans’ expenditures, prosecute any corruption, and recover any stolen funds.

SERAP emphasized the need for transparency, warning that ongoing impunity for corruption could weaken public trust and the rule of law. They gave the government seven days to act, threatening legal action if their demands are not met.
