The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has begun a seven-day warning strike in protest of the ongoing abduction of their colleague, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, who has been held for eight months.
NARD President, Dr. Dele Abdullahi, announced that the strike started at midnight on August 26, 2024, and will be total, with no emergency care provided.
Healthcare centers must comply fully or face penalties and exclusion from NARD’s upcoming Annual General Meeting. Dr. Popoola, who was abducted along with her husband and nephew in December 2023, remains in captivity while her husband was released in March.
