The FBI reported that former President Donald Trump was the target of what appears to be an assassination attempt at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida. This incident occurred just nine weeks after the Republican presidential nominee survived another attack on his life.
Trump confirmed he was safe and unharmed, while authorities have detained a suspect. U.S. Secret Service agents, stationed a few holes away from where Trump was golfing, spotted the muzzle of an AK-style rifle protruding from the bushes lining the course, approximately 400 yards away.
An agent fired at the suspect, who dropped the weapon and fled in an SUV, leaving behind the rifle, two backpacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.
The FBI is processing the items as evidence. Trump, who was not injured, later issued a statement about the event. The suspect was apprehended in a neighboring county.
