Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was arrested after an alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Routh, who has claimed involvement in the Ukraine war and efforts to recruit soldiers, has been noted for his social media activity related to the conflict.
Ryan Wesley Routh, a former construction worker from North Carolina living in Hawaii, was arrested after allegedly attempting to assassinate former President Trump at Trump International Golf Course. On September 15, around 1:30 p.m., Routh was seen with a rifle near the course’s fourth or fifth hole.
A Secret Service agent, one hole ahead, engaged him after he abandoned his weapon and fled in a Nissan SUV. The suspect, carrying an AK-style rifle and other equipment, was tracked via a license plate captured by a witness.
Photos shared by law enforcement show two black bags hanging from a chain-link fence in the shrubbery outside the course, with the firearm propped up in between them and pointed through a gap in the fence. The GoPro camera was hanging on the fence to the side.
The suspect fled in the SUV and was later apprehended in a nearby county without a weapon, law enforcement officials told The Associated Press.
