“Yahaya Bello Honors EFCC Invitation Amid Ongoing Corruption Investigation”

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has responded to an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to a statement from his media office. The statement, signed by Director Ohiare Michael, explained that Bello’s appearance followed consultations with his family, legal team, and political associates.

Accompanied by prominent figures, Bello is currently facing 19 charges of money laundering involving N80.2 billion. Despite the allegations, the former governor maintains he has “nothing to hide and nothing to fear” as he seeks to clear his name.

The statement highlighted that Yahaya Bello had previously taken legal steps to protect his fundamental rights and ensure due process in the EFCC’s investigation. His legal team has represented him at all court hearings. Now, the former governor has decided to honor the EFCC’s invitation to clear his name, reiterating he has “nothing to hide and nothing to fear.” Bello supports President Bola Tinubu’s efforts for economic development and the fight against corruption.

Meanwhile, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede had earlier pledged to prosecute Bello fully, even vowing to resign if the former governor is not brought to justice. He also promised to hold accountable anyone who obstructed Bello’s arrest. Attempts to reach EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale for comment were unsuccessful.
