Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that his team will continue discussions with the U.S. regarding Washington’s proposal for a ceasefire in Lebanon. He noted that this would allow displaced Israelis to return to their homes.
U.S. officials report that Netanyahu initially agreed to a truce but later reconsidered due to opposition within his government.
Netanyahu is also set to address the United Nations today.
Lebanese officials claim that Israeli strikes have killed over 700 people since Monday.
Cross-border fire between Israel and Hezbollah has occurred almost daily since October 8 of last year. Hezbollah, backed by Iran, claims to act in solidarity with Palestinians, while Israel’s goal is to eliminate Hezbollah’s threat and facilitate the return of displaced Israelis to northern Israel.
