Esinjemiyotan Atsepoyi, the wife of Nigerian comedian Mr. Jollof, has filed a defamation lawsuit against activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, seeking N500 million in damages.
The lawsuit follows allegations made by VeryDarkMan, who claimed that Esinjemiyotan used unethical methods to help her husband, Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, obtain his role as Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. He also accused her of engaging in adultery with a “Yahoo boy” and multiple politicians.
In response to the allegations, Mrs. Atsepoyi has given VeryDarkMan a 30-day ultimatum to appear in court and defend his claims, sharing a four-page writ of summons that outlines the allegations on social media. She is seeking N500 million in damages for harm to her reputation and business. Additionally, she requests the court to mandate VeryDarkMan to publicly apologize in at least two national newspapers and on all his social media platforms.
Her claim includes:
A declaration that VeryDarkMan defamed her through his online posts on September 15, 16, and 19, 2024.
An order for VeryDarkMan to pay N500 million as general damages.
A requirement for him to publish an apology in two national newspapers and on his social media.
A permanent injunction to prevent him from making further defamatory statements against her.
