Rapper Falz has addressed the ongoing dispute with social critic VeryDarkMan. In a recent interview with media personality Adesope, when asked about his thoughts on VDM’s activism, Falz stated that he knows very little about it.
‘’I don’t know much of it, prior to the first video he shared talking about me and my dad. I hadn’t seen much of him. What I had seen was some stuff about people that didn’t have NAFDAC numbers and selling products and at the time when I saw some of those clips, I was like this person must be doing something right, this is a good course. Asides that, I haven’t seen much of his work”
Speaking on how VDM ‘’attacked” him and his dad’s character in the video the social critic released, Falz said;
‘’One day, this person thought it wise to turn on his ring light, sit down and via direct statements, insinuations and innuendos, allege that myself and my dad connived with a certain individual to manipulate justice and bribe the EFCC and adding that the reason I have done this is because I have a homosexual relationship with Bobrisky, going further to say that my posturing as an activist is false.”
Falz said he felt horrible when VDM made the statements in the video he released in September. He said
‘’Absolutely no proof. Why would you just come and allege all these things with absolutely nothing to support this statement.”
Falz, through his legal counsel, stated that he has contacted the individual whom VDM claims made the statements about him and his father in the audio recording. The individual confirmed that no money was paid to either him or his father.
Falz explained,
“Now, VDM must defend his claims because the burden of proof lies with the accuser. I have filed a defamation lawsuit since this is clearly a case of defamation. The case is still ongoing in court.”
The rapper also mentioned that a High Court ordered VDM to remove the video containing the allegations against him and his father, but VDM has refused to comply with the court order.
“In my defamation suit, I will be seeking damages, as that is the available remedy in a civil case. There is also a criminal aspect to defamation, but I chose not to pursue that route. He could have been arrested. Now, the narrative is that my family and I are trying to oppress him because we have legal power… Come on! I don’t go looking for trouble. I mind my own business. You set up your ring light and made all these claims about me, and you expect me to stay silent.”
Falz also mentioned that he had a phone conversation with VDM, during which VDM was very defensive.
“He told me, ‘Since you’re a lawyer, take it to court!’
In my opinion, this person wanted litigation. What he thinks he’ll gain from it, I don’t know. Maybe he believes it will make him look like some sort of hero, but he clearly wanted the lawsuit,” Falz concluded.
