Shettima canceled his trip to Samoa midway after a ‘foreign object’ struck his plane, damaging the cockpit windscreen.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has canceled his trip to the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit in Samoa, where he was to represent Nigeria. The cancellation occurred after a foreign object struck his plane during a stopover at JFK Airport in New York, damaging the cockpit windscreen.

In response, President Tinubu approved a ministerial delegation led by the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, to represent Nigeria at the summit, which runs from October 21 to October 26. The repairs on the damaged plane are currently underway, according to a statement from Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
