The EFCC is unable to arrest former Governor Bello as he is protected by the immunity of Kogi State Governor Ododo.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has clarified why security agencies have been unable to arrest the embattled former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, explained on Channels Television’s Inside Sources why security agencies have not yet arrested former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello. Onanuga attributed this to the “complicated” nature of the situation, noting that Bello is reportedly taking refuge with Kogi’s current governor, Usman Ododo, who has immunity from prosecution.

Onanuga clarified that as long as Bello remains in Ododo’s residence, police cannot intervene without violating this immunity. Drawing a comparison to the WikiLeaks founder’s refuge in an embassy, he highlighted the limitations faced by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC declared Bello wanted in April over alleged financial crimes of N80.2 billion and has attempted multiple arrests, but the case has been delayed in court due to his absence.
