The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the notion of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, succeeding Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027. Recent endorsements by groups like the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders and Friends of Seyi Tinubu have sparked controversy, with critics arguing that governance should not be treated as a family inheritance.
The PDP spokesperson, Hakeem Amode, emphasized that Lagosians would resist such impositions, recalling their rejection of Tinubu in the last presidential election. Indigenous groups in Lagos have also opposed non-indigenes governing the state. However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the debates as premature and called for focus on current governance. APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe criticized the endorsements, labeling them a distraction and asserting that Lagos leadership requires experienced hands.
