A tragic incident occurred in Nsokkara, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, where 40-year-old Joshua Nwafor has been accused of killing his wife, Charity, over a disagreement regarding a tuber of yam.
The couple, who had been married for 17 years and shared children, lived peacefully in their home until the fatal altercation. Joshua, a native of Nsokkara, had prepared to cook yam for the family when his wife, Charity, originally from Awkuzu in Onicha Local Government Area, insisted on having roasted yam instead.
According to an eyewitness, the situation escalated when Charity went ahead to roast the yam, angering Joshua. He allegedly dragged her into their room, locked the door, and proceeded to beat her severely, ultimately causing her death.
The eyewitness expressed concern about the tragic outcome, urging individuals to seek peaceful resolutions to marital issues and advising that when a relationship becomes life-threatening, it is crucial to leave, regardless of societal pressure.
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, condemned the incident, describing it as senseless. He assured the public that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted, and the suspect would face legal consequences in court.
