A 25-year-old man tragically lost his life to electrocution on December 31 after purchasing an extension box to power his fridge in preparation for the New Year.
The incident was shared in a post circulating on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that the young man was found with an open extension box on his chest after the electrocution.
Earlier that day, he had asked his mother to buy the extension box while she was out shopping, but she forgot. The man then went out to purchase one himself, only to be fatally electrocuted.
Efforts to revive him at home were unsuccessful. He was rushed to the hospital, but due to a lack of oxygen, attempts to save him were delayed. After much struggle to secure oxygen, he was declared dead.
The post described the emotional ordeal:
âMy brother asked my mum to buy bangers and drinks for New Year’s in the morning. She went to the market and he called her to pick up an extension box because his had broken. She returned and told him she forgot, so he went out to get it himself.”
âWe heard a loud noise from his apartment, and we rushed over to find him with an open extension box on his chest. He had been electrocuted.”
âI quickly turned off the extension and saw he was weak and struggling to breathe. We tried home remedies and rushed him to the hospital. You know how Nigerian hospitals areâŠâ
âThey told us there was no oxygen, no doctors, and some even declared him dead without checking. I cried and prayed, hoping for a miracle, even recording the moment in case Godâs mercy showed.â
âEventually, we secured oxygen, but my brother was declared dead. He had no prior sickness or headacheâhe simply bought the extension to chill his fridge.â
âDeath took my 25-year-old brother away on New Yearâs Eve. I am older than him. Does God really answer prayers? I have no more tears left.â
The heartbreaking story has sparked an outpouring of grief and emotional reactions online.
